A New Year

A new year has arrived and so have new students for me. Classes full of new sprouts, young girls burgeoning, young men erupting with hair and pimples. Attitudes of sweet innocence while others loathe everyone and everything. Yes, one actually put that in a paper. Sad, isn't it?
I can plant the seeds, water them, tend the tender shoots, and protect them from most harm; but, can I ever reap the produce of principles that I have worked so hard to grow?
I penned this petite poem today. I hope that the future will yield a fruition of patriots, or at least, one or two.

Pliant but not compliant
Teenagers seem to be
Wearing a mask of recalcitrance
Only learning reluctantly.
