Meet Archie J. Hoagland aka Sartor A Virtual Meetup At Spalshhall Poetry Forums

Greetings, to all who read these lines. Where to begin? I was born in 1932, in the second story of a rooming house in Nebraska City, Nebraska, because that is where the mid-wife lived. The great depression was in full swing with soup lines, bank closures and a time when young men would soon be carted off to the CCC camps across America. Both my parents were simple, uneducated farm people. We moved from farm to farm, sharecropping our way from Nebraska to Oklahoma to Colorado, to Utah and ended up in Oregon. Never having attended any school more then one year at a time, sometimes two in a year (and they were mostly one room country schools) I was always the new kid with holes in both shoes and patches on my clothes, so I never made any lasting friendships and also did not receive a decent education. I hated school and ended up in High School in Hillsboro, Oregon where I dropped out as soon as I was old enough to join the U.S. Navy.

OK…the foregoing was just to let you know where I came from. Self educated for the most part, I have been writing poetry for about as long as I can remember. It was surely an escape mechanism into a land of Faeries and knights and princes and kings. For many years I would write poems and then throw them away, because in my circles it was not a manly thing to do. Not until sometime in the 90s did I began to save some of them. I always write in rhyme. I love the lilting lines that are welded together with words that rhyme within the rhythm and the “song” of the poem. I like to write in the strict confines of the chosen number of feet per line. I do so enjoy reading Kipling, Bronte, Byron and Rossetti, which are a few of my favorites. I now boast a fairly large library of poetry, many volumes of which I have picked up in used book stores as well as new editions.

I find that being involved in SplashHall Poetry Forums keeps me somewhat in touch with the world of poets and I can enjoy all the wonderful poetry that is written here. This site is such a blessing to would-be poets such as I. Something I do when reading,, and I do quite a bit of reading, much of it is historical in nature, as I come across a certain line that has an emotional impact on me, I will jot it down and later enter it into a folder named ‘IDEA LINES’. It is just a place that I can look at for a touch of inspiration and sort of prod my Muses a bit. My favorite pastimes are poetry, reading, sculpting, dancing and pro-football.

Come meet Sartor at the Spalshhall Poetry Forums and say hi. You can also his recent realsed book "Poetry Of Sartor", written on hard book cover in primarily Victorian verse by contacting Sartor by email Hoagland13@cox.net

Meet Up With Marge Merrill aka WordFaery ~ A SplashHall Poetry Poet

My name is Marge Merrill, aka WordFaery. I'm a life-long resident of western New York state and share a home with two humans and three dozen teddy bears. I've worked in the long term care field for over 25 years, first as a care-giver and then in administrative positions.

I've been writing stories since I was 12 and after being turned off by poetry in high school, rediscovered verse in 1999. I joined my first internet poetry group, SplashHall Poetry in 2002 and got hooked on free verse. In addition to having my performance poetry aired on BZoO HomeGrown Radio, I also help out in production . I might even fall victim to Rg's arm twisting and do my own show on BZoO soon.

In 2005 I completed my first spoken word CD "eclectic," a fun collection that includes a (true, I swear) short story about camping. Current projects include "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," an audio book to be released in early October and "Playgrounds" another spoken word poetry collection which I hope to have ready around Thanksgiving.

Another labor of love under construction is my website www.wordfaery.com Click on over to SplashHall Poetry Forums and say hi to Marge.

Political Verse

Wow, I haven't posted here in a long time! Well it's time to catch up a bit. Since my last visit here, I've posted a variety of political song parodies, limericks, and haiku at my Notables political humor blog. In fact, just today I posted 3 political haiku. Here's one of them:

ABC movie
Shifts Nine-one-one blame through lies,
To steal votes from Dems.

Also, I've recently launched a second blog, devoted to my non-political humor. I hope you'll check it out.

Meet Poet Teresa Matlock - A Virtual MeetUp At SplashHall Poetry Forums

My name is Teresa A. Matlock, aka NightSongs. I was born in West Plains Mo. and have remained in Missouri my entire life. I began writing poetry one year ago even though I had never read poetry or new anything about it, I just one day decided to start writing down my feelings and it just turned into a poem, so I kept writing and hav'nt stopped.

I enjoy finding new things to do. In the last few years I've began making and collecting dolls, crafts and I enjoy painting. I love art especially vintage art, also digital and fantasy art, modern photography and I'm just crazy about classic movies, very old ones even the silent films.

My favorite classic stars are Joan Crawford, Jean Harlow, Clara Bow and Clark Gable. As a child I dreamed of becoming a movie star and loved anything that sparkled, dressing up in my grandmothers old ball gowns at least thats what I called them, in my world I was beautiful and glamorous, and also quite a dreamer. Though things did'nt turn out the way I expected still I enjoyed believing, thats the beauty of childhood.

In my twenties I worked for awhile as a nanny, also worked in New York as a nanny for a summer. I loved New York and always wanted to go back. There were still so many things I wanted to do and see while I was there but had very little time. My future is still unknown but there are many things I would love to do. Maybe try photography, travel all over the world, indulge in many pleasures and fall deeply in love. One never knows.

So come on over to SplashHall Poetry Forums and meet NightSongs.

Nasty, Biting, Clever Critiques, Just Another Day At The Poetic AX - SplashHall Poetry

There's a million stories at the SplashHall Poetry Forums. Below are just a few in discussion about the poetry workshop Poetic AX...

"Why not post 'I Have A Vagina' where we can bring our plates and utensils?" Champagne Shoes

"I'm not sure how one languishes a cigarette, but I sure can languish "with" one." - Witt

My motto is: Slap my face, don't slap my back. The thing I hate most about forums are the gutless critics who say: "good job," "wonderful poem," "wish I'd written that." - Diana Trees

"...it reads as an admonition, and I'm not sure if those are the words that "entered her" in the previous stanza, the poetic voice upbraiding Miller (which kind of defeats the otherwise detached, omniscient quality of the voice), or another voice entirely, maybe a flashback (the writer recalling his father, perhaps?)." - MikkiRat

"..this makes me feel like I reading the inside front of a dust jacket for a new novel. Very intriguing and well written, but it just don't do it for me poetically. Not enough umph or statement or shock or emotion, etc." - DublinSteve

"Six years ago I was told that if I insist upon writing, to kindly confine myself to sharing my work with my Mother.

I told the ass what he could do with his group and sought out places where I could get the feedback that I needed. I found SplashHall Poetry." - Wordfaery

"The hardest part about critic of any kind is the fact that poetry is art, and as art is not only a means of expression but, a form of entertainment.

Add in the fact artist/poets feel a connectedness to their creation, and any negative feedback usually meets with opposition." - Fragments

"i begin my remarks by recognizing the tensiled backbone and the sleepy river (no pun intended) flow of your poem. the movements seem to take us along the contours of our inspired coffee maker.

on the soft edges of her banks we take the brewing process like a tour across her fertile knolls and hidden inlets." - Cy Street

"sensitive story, but what is the word when we attribute human characteristics to animals? probably not a nice word.

maybe attribute all these things to a hiker, solitary figure (wordsworth above tintern abbey) who is prompted to muse as he spies on antelope, aware of but indifferent to his presence?" - Mojave

"I am infused with a pungent scent of coming across a patch of wild leeks. The leek can be said to be a cross between garlic and scallion. Imagine fresh picked garlic and scallions sautéed in rich creamy butter. ..This is the Poetic AX in a patch of wild leeks. The pungent scent of creativity and friendship. This is SplashHall Poetry. SplashHall is poetry." - cafeRg

Come join us. If your serious about poetry

The Poetic Ax is just that, the AX --[unspoken] if you gonna put your poem here we are going to cut it up. Our AX is sharp baby, so dont start wining [sic] unless you bring the cheese--
